Many people might think that braces are only available for children (which is not true), and being that a child’s teeth are always growing and shifting, there is some special time or age at which is the correct opportunity to purchase braces. Masaryktown residents should know that it is usually recommended that a child gets braces sooner rather than later because their teeth are still at a point where they are easier to manipulate with orthodontics. Although there is no correct age to helping your child the best, most orthodontists recommend that children as young as six or seven should start going to their offices because this is when alignment and crowding issues start to arise.
Parents Should Worry About Teeth and Not Age
Most parents look at the age of their child to determine if they have a healthy and normal smile, but this is ineffective and not very accurate because not everyone develops tooth growth at the same rate. Orthodontists recommend that parents should monitor spacing and overbite conditions as opposed to having their age dictate if they have good oral health or not. In some instances, an orthodontist will not proceed with braces if the child has not lost all of their baby teeth, which can take some more than fourteen years until they can be fitted with braces. Masaryktown orthodontists use age as a reference as to when they can start braces, not as an answer as to when a child should start with orthodontics.
Is it Ever Too Late for my Child and Braces?
As stated above some dentists and orthodontics will not recommend braces until after all adult teeth have come in to minimize complications and the amount of time a child would need to have braces. Masaryktown parents might be wondering if they can ever wait too long for their child to be fitted with braces but there is no cut off age for braces. In fact, many adults are becoming comfortable with the idea of getting braces later in their life to help correct their teeth. Most adults are even offered different options than that of children such as with Invisalign and other retainer options.
