Missing teeth is an important issue that needs to be addressed as they can cause a number of problems for an individual’s oral health. It only takes one tooth to be missing to allow a patient’s other teeth to drift out of alignment. Fortunately for us though, there are many different modern options to help correct this problem such as partial dentures or dental bridges. Trinity residents might ask themselves, which is a better cosmetic dentistry option for me, dental bridges or partial dentures? Both of these procedures are quite common for restorative solutions of missing teeth. They are both similar, that it can be hard for an individual to understand which option is more suitable for their position.
Dental Bridges
Traditional dental bridges are designed to be able to fill gaps of consecutive missing teeth that a patient may have. In order to have someone fitted for dental bridges, Trinity dentists usually have to file the teeth around the missing one in order to fascine the dental crowns of the bridge to fit. A dental bridge can consist of one or more artificial teeth that are placed over the healthy teeth on either side of the gap.
Partial Dentures
A lot of confusion arises between dental bridges and partial dentures because they are so similar. One of the primary differences between dental bridges and partial dentures is that for the most part, partial dentures are able to be removed while that is not the case for dental bridges. Trinity residents considering partial dentures should be aware that the artificial teeth are not attached to other teeth but rather they sit on an acrylic plate that is designed to look like real gums. To keep the partial dentures from shifting and moving while in your mouth, they are typically held in place by metal clasps that are attached to surrounding teeth.
