A lot of people you may know who have dental crowns might have them made out of some gold, or at least have a color that looks a lot like gold. Back in the day gold fillings used to be quite common for people, and so were gold dental crowns. High Point residents should be made aware that although some times gold is used in dental procedures, there are cheaper alternatives nowadays that hold up just as well as the old crowns. More materials used today look more like real teeth, to create the illusion that there has never been any dental work done at all.
Ceramic and Porcelain Crowns
One of the materials that dentists are using now for dental crowns instead of gold ones are ceramic or porcelain crowns. High Point residents should be interested in these types of crowns for a multitude of reasons. First off, ceramic or porcelain crowns are going to be much cheaper than that of gold crowns. Yet even though these crowns are cheaper, that does not mean that they are any lower quality to that of traditional gold crowns. In fact, they can be just as strong and last as long of that of a traditional gold crown.
Other Types of Metals
Another popular version of crowns that you might have seen would be metal crowns. High Point residents should be aware that these are some of the strongest crowns you can get, and they are mostly used in back teeth like molars that wear down faster because of chewing and grinding. Another benefit of having metal crowns instead of using gold or ceramic crowns is that fact that metal alloys crowns are highly resistance to corrosion. Depending on what tooth of yours needs a crown or how damaged it is, metal alloys might be your only choice of dental crown.
