Many patients have cracked or chipped a tooth as the result of biting something hard or by an accident. In terrible cases, a dentist is going to have to fix the patients teeth with cosmetic dentistry. San Antonio residents might have heard about other forms of cosmetic dentistry such as filling and dental crowns, but is there a way to salvage a tooth that is not cracked or chipped as bad? In some instances, a dental professional may recommend that their patient proceed with a treatment involving dental bonding. Most dental procedures of cosmetic dentistry involve a few visits in order to be completed, but dental bonding can be done with only one dental visit.
What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is the process of repairing decayed, chipped, or fractured teeth with a composite resin material. Once the material is applied to the chip or crack of a tooth, the resin is hardened with the assistance of an ultraviolet light that hardens the material. With this form of cosmetic dentistry, San Antonio residents do not have to worry about the dental bonding not matching the color of their teeth because they are often color matched.
How Long do the Procedures Usually Last?
Depending on the severity of the patient’s tooth, as well as the workload of the dental professional, on average dental bonding procedures end up taking only an hour to an hour and a half of the patient’s time. With this form of cosmetic dentistry, San Antonio residents are not finished once the resin is hardened. Their dental professional will then have to trim and shape the polish once it has hardened. Afterwards, the resin material would have to be further smoothed out to match the shine of existing teeth, to make it look more natural and not noticeable.
