It is not uncommon for people to only have to visit their dentist for routine cleanings and checkups. These types of visits are normally done within an hour or so of work, but this is not how many other dental procedures go, such as a patient getting new dental caps. Hernando Beach residents should know that dental crowns at the very least will take two different visits to the dentist in order to get put on properly. This may take longer if someone does not know that they need a dental crown. This is why many individuals often find out that they need additional work done to their teeth during these routine visits.

First Visit and a Temporary Caps

If a patient’s teeth are decaying or damaged, it still may not be ready to be fitted for dental caps. Hernando Beach residents should know that the dental cap does not go over an untouched tooth, work must be done on the tooth in order to get the cap to fit. A dental professional has to first shape the damaged tooth in order for the dental crown to fit snugly and protect the tooth from future damage and decay. Once the tooth is shaped it is still vulnerable, so this is when a dentist will put on a temporary cap for their patients. This is because real dental caps have to be custom designed and made for patients specifically, as all teeth and reshaping are different.

Second Visits for Permanent Caps

Many people might imagine that it does not take long to turn impressions of teeth into new dental caps. Hernando Beach residents might not be aware that it can take many weeks for a lab to create a permanent cap for a patient. This can take even longer if a dentist determines that the cap wasn’t made correctly or doesn’t fit as it should. If there is an instance where a dental cap does not fit properly, a patient will have to continue to wear their temporary cap to protect their newly shaped tooth.
