Dental procedures can get pretty scary and hectic when they are portrayed on TV or movies. There are a lot of things happening that the patient is not knowledgeable about, from the procedures to the dental instruments that are being used during dental cleanings. Hill n Dale residents might want to know what types of medications they may be subjected to when they go to their dental office, but during a regular cleaning, there is little to no medications that would need to be administered during the procedure. If a complication arises, a dentist may need to prescribe something or use it for treatment, but this is not going to be something that happens during a regular dental cleaning.
Polishing Paste or Prophylaxis Paste
When someone is sitting in their dental appointment for regular dental cleanings, Hill n Dale residents are going to have a gritty paste applied to their teeth. This paste is known for being abrasive and gritty to polish the surface of teeth better than over the counter toothpaste, but there is no medication that patients need to be worried about. The particles that can be more abrasive in some pastes but not others may change, but there is little to no health concerns that need to be taken into consideration before polishing teeth.
Fluoride Treatments
Most people know that fluoride is a common substance used in dentistry, but the specifics of it are not widely known. When it comes to the fluoride that is used in dental cleanings, Hill n Dale residents need to be aware that fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in nature, and in humans, it is found in our bones and teeth. It is used in dentistry quite commonly to strengthen tooth enamel to help prevent cavities in the future. This mineral is so common that it is found in toothpastes and mouth rinses that people use every day, and there is no reason to be concerned about what the fluoride paste will do to someone and their teeth.
