If teeth are taken care of properly, they can last us a whole lifetime without ever needing to be removed or replaced, due to common issues such as tooth decay and bad oral hygiene.
Yet, if someone does not take care of their teeth, or if they are in some sort of accident, it is very easy to break or have a tooth come out. This can cause problems for people in a multitude of ways, such as pain, difficulty speaking properly, complications when eating, and more.
If someone does have one or more teeth missing, and they are looking at different options for false teeth, Trinity residents might notice that there are a few different options to choose from. This is something that is going to depend on the specific teeth issues and the discretion of a dental professional, but today we will be going over some of the more popular options for false teeth.
Full and Partial Dentures
If someone is missing many teeth, or they have teeth that are rapidly decaying due to specific issues, a dental professional may choose to recommend either full or partial dentures for their patient.
Most people know what dentures are, as they are probably the most popular kind of false teeth. Trinity residents should know that dentures do not have to replace all teeth, as partial dentures are also an option to consider. But unless someone has a lot of teeth missing, they should not be thinking about dentures to solve any missing teeth issues.
If you are someone missing one to three teeth, for example, it may be a better idea to consider getting a dental bridge instead. A dental bridge is less invasive than a full set of dentures, and it can end up saving teeth that have no issues with them or are not missing.
Dental Implants for Missing Teeth
If a patient has only one tooth that is missing, and they want to correct the issue with one of the options of false teeth, Trinity residents may want to consider looking into dental implants.
Implants are similar to crowns or veneers, however they are actually installed into the gums of a patient that acts like anchor points, or tooth roots in a normal healthy tooth. This is different from caps or veneers that go over existing teeth, even those who are having issues with breaks or tooth decay.
Implants are only really recommended for one missing tooth, but if a person have more than one missing tooth, a dental professional will choose to use a larger piece of equipment instead of multiple dental implants.
