Most individuals think that people who need a tooth extracted have to have years of neglect or decay in order to have that happen. In other words, many individuals think you have to be a certain age to have the option to have tooth extraction. Pine Island residents should know that although many dentists recommend that a tooth should only be removed later when it starts causing other complications, it is still possible that a child may need to have their teeth extracted. Even though most patients that deal with tooth extraction are adults, a child may still need dental attention to better their oral health.
Children as Young as Nine
There are some medical conditions that may prompt a dentist to recommend tooth extraction for younger children who shouldn’t be experiencing dental problems. One of the most pressing issues that would prompt tooth extraction would be if a child has developed an extra tooth. Known as hypodontia, or supernumerary teeth, it is not impossible from children to develop an extra tooth, usually behind or in front of preexisting teeth. If a child does not get a tooth extraction, Pine Island parents should be aware that their child can have problems in the future with speaking properly, being able to chew easily, and additional oral complications.
Children who are Five and Younger
One of the biggest issues in terms of oral health for very young children is actually tooth decay. Many new parents are under the impression that their child does not need to worry about losing teeth or dealing with cavities, but it is a real issue for some. It is often not recommended by a dentist for a child to go through with tooth extraction. Pine island residents should also be aware that sometimes tooth extraction is necessary for a child to prevent future oral complications.
