There are many forms of cosmetic dentistry that can make it hard to describe to someone what it is in its entirety. Essentially with cosmetic dentistry, Holiday patients are going to go to their dentists and get some type of procedure that is going to change the appearance of their teeth. One of the most common cosmetic procedures that patients get are dental crowns, but not everyone has a damaged tooth so bad that they need a full crown. When a full dental crown is not necessary, dentists often recommend their patients get dental inlays or on lays for their damaged tooth.

Dental Inlays

Have you ever heard of a dental filling? This kind of procedure is mostly known by its common name, but officially they are called dental inlays in cosmetic dentistry. Holiday dental patients might be uninterested in dental inlays because they associate them with their old metal counterparts. Nowadays, most dental inlays are made from porcelain or a composite material that looks and feels like a piece of a real tooth. Most dental inlays happen in the center of a tooth because this is where the decay as started, and it has not had enough time to affect the whole tooth.

What are Dental On lays?

Dental on lays are the middle ground between a dental inlay and a full dental crown. Dental on lays often cover as much as the surface of a tooth, because the rest of the tooth is healthy enough to avoid cosmetic dentistry. Holiday residents might have to opt for getting a dental on lay instead of a dental inlay because they have had a cavity been neglected for too long that has affected much of the tooth. Dental on lays can also be made from porcelain or composite materials that look and feel like a real tooth.
